Daily Rituals of Successful People

While everyone has their own definition of professional success, the one thing all successful people share is a drive to be better than the day before. How can you stay focused and moving in the right direction when life is so hectic?

Ben Franklin began and ended his day by asking himself questions that reflected his goal. In the morning he asked himself, “What good shall I do this day?” In the evening, he wrapped up by asking, “What good have I done today?” Bookending his day helped him measure his progress against his goal and maintained his focus.

Try asking yourself these questions daily to help you take stock and become a better version of yourself.

  1. What did I do today to make progress against my goal(s)? Reminding yourself that you brought your lunch to work and skipped Starbucks will reinforce your determination to save money. And thinking about your goals every day may also convince you to uplevel them.
  2. Do I have a game plan? Breaking down your goal into manageable pieces makes it more doable. It’s hard to make progress without knowing what steps you need to take along the way.
  3. Am I committed? If you find you’re losing heart for your goal, it may be the wrong goal. Or it may mean you need to recommit to focusing on what you want to achieve.

Most people only take stock at specific times of the year (New Years, birthdays, etc.) Checking in on your progress daily makes it much more likely you’ll achieve your goals.
