I’m not a touchy-feely person and it seems out of control to me that every time I see clients, or say good-bye to them, there’s kissing and hugging. How can I stay inside my comfort zone without alienating these well-intentioned but far too friendly displays of affection? J.B., Secaucus, NJ

This is a sticky situation, given that the “offender” is a customer. The good news is that you have clearly established a very high level of trust and intimacy with your clients. In your case, there’s too much risk in trying to gradually pull back because your clients could misinterpret your behavior and jump to inaccurate conclusions.
