Playing Devil’s Advocate

Playing devil’s advocate can be a very valuable business tool. The process helps you test the quality of an idea, identify any weaknesses, and clarify your thinking.  Traditionally the devil’s advocate takes an opposing position, whether or not s/he agrees with it, in order to create a thorough discussion of an idea, plan, or project. Unfortunately the concept has gotten a bad rap because it has become a label given to those who adopt an unpopular or unconventional point of view, or to someone who is seen to be arguing for the sake of argument.

Plan a Vacation

A survey by Expedia.com found that the average employed American worker received 14 vacation days in 2011 but only used 12 of those days. Thirty seven percent had even postponed or cancelled a vacation due to work. That adds up to 224 million earned but unused vacation days. In monetary terms, that’s $33.75 billion worth of time!

Absolutely. Many assume that when using their personal email account that information is not accessible. If you’re using a machine owned by the company assume that nothing you do on it is confidential.
