Up Your Performance

Successful people motivate themselves in order to continuously improve their performance. One way they do so is identifying role models for specific skills they want to master to bring their game to a new level.

Question:

I get a sick feeling in my stomach every Sunday night. I like my job but the stress level is so high it's making me sick. I don't want to change jobs but I can't go on like this much longer. Thoughts? T.C., Austin, TX

Amanda Mitchell
Answer:

Be careful how you characterize your situation to yourself. Saying, “I can’t go on like this much longer” may reflect the intensity of your feelings but it probably isn’t factually true. What it does is ramp up the drama you’re feeling and it focuses your attention on the negatives—what isn’t working in your current situation.
