Debriefing

Most corporate staffers have experienced a debrief. Debriefs usually take place after a big meeting and can often turn into finger-pointing contests. If you use debriefs for this purpose, you miss an important opportunity to improve your current practices and relationships.

A productive debrief has common elements. Start by capturing the facts without any color commentary. Instead of, “The event was fantastic,” you can say, “We invited 150 and 250 actually attended.” Next, list the key accomplishments, both large and small. You want the “small wins” because they provide the foundation for the ultimate outcome.

Practical Tips: Weighty Info

As we head into the holiday season (I’m counting Halloween as the kick-off!) be aware that it’s not only increasing your calories in social situations that contributes to weight gain. In a survey conducted by careerbuilder.com, 49% of office workers said they had gained weight at their current jobs, and 28% of those had piled on more than 10 pounds.

Look for ways to increase your workday activity. Stand up and pace when you’re on the phone.

It’s a common misconception that attitude doesn’t matter if your work is exceptional. That might work for a while but eventually behavior catches up with you. People like to work with those they enjoy. Complainers who regularly shoot down ideas, or employees who act like prima donnas, are usually considered a pain by everyone.
